The Diversifying Doulas Initiative (DDI) is an extension of Patients R Waiting, an educational consortium dedicated to providing hoslistic support to future BIPoc clinicans to diversify the medical workforce.  This study was developed to asses DDI patient historical medical experiences in order to gain a greater perspective on the efficacy and impact of culturally resonant doula care.  In addition, the first stage of this study was conducted ethnographically in observation of a novel clinical apprenticeship model and relationships between doulas and clinicians. Phase 1 of this study concluded on 2/23/23.  Findings will be formally published via PRW media Channels.  This study was an examination utilizing a mixed methods approach of both qualitative research and an action plan design.  PRW developed a lactation learning loop to extend social support and licensed lactation training to improve lactation adherence rates.  In addition, surveys were conducted among birthing persons bedside pre-discharge in an effort to gauge perceptions and social barriers to lactation initiation and adherence.  These findings provided insights on historical medical narratives as well as potential historical oversight into behavioral and clinical proclivities for the development of PDD.  For a brief summary, please click here.
